I'm beginning a story,
A story of a glory.
Narrating music's triumph o'er
The devils heart empty and sour.

I lived in a village,
Free of plunder and pillage.
But one day struck by misfortune.
A drought that spread the dune
To the land of life and prosper...
The river ran dry not drop in her.
Widespread was agony and despair
For never had a fate so we'd to bear.
They all decided turned to one
Me- the eldest of the eldest son.
To bring back the river that flowed
Upon me was this quest bestowed.
An honour it was they said
In all true honesty I was scared.
What if I couldn't, what if I failed ?
Who will bequeath a town that wailed.
So I put on face ever so brave
Aloud I said 'This town shall I save!'
They cheered loud showing not support
But a hope, a faint hope they dared to sport.
So onwards i set,to the land north
To lands edges and then forth.
I followed the winding trail
Dryer became land and life more frail.
Dead dears, thirst stricken songbirds
Now cawing running out of words.
Dried deranged desertified distances
Stretching silently, soaking senses -
Of all living and otherwise
Spreading deaths surmise
And suddenly hence
heard a laughter dense
Purely maniacal and raging
Unnerving and fear staging
And beyond the curve yonder
Was beyond wildest wonder,
The devil himself waiting!
For someone to pass greeting.
I could see from thus afar,
His smoldering chest ajar
With dense burning fire
His tormented souls' pyre
He saw me and beckoned
to run, for a moment I reckoned
But frozen in fear was I
All i could do was muffle a cry
He shimmered and disappeared
But again he appeared
I saw steam billowing around
With sizzling sound
His fiery heart was vaporizing
the water was rising
He spoke voice that seemed three
A voice that went right through me
Sending tremors in heart and land
Spraying soot steam and sand
"have thy come to challenge or barter
For this steaming mile of water?"
"To barter my lord" I squeaked
Of fear the words reeked
"this water is what bequeaths
The agony this skin sheaths"
A pain so deep resonated In me as he debated
I felt for the devil, deepest sorry
Gone was every drop of worry
'Anything i'll do for it
However painful be it"
"punishment is for those who deserve
No pleasures in me does it serve"
" but an impossible I shall ask
Too hard for any mortal to task"
"What be it lord that i should indulge?"
"this madness in me must you purge"
Devoid the devil of madness
what powers must i harness?
"may I ponder on the thought?"
Replied he"It's Impossible so why not.."
May I interst thee in a melody
That may conquer the heresy

He agreed on condition
Only to such an epic rendition
"That may quench my thirst of peace
And bring what's left of my soul to some ease"
So I Sang a beautiful song
hadn't been sung in times for long
' Are you going to Scarborough fair"
Those lines did the devils heart ensnare
'Parsley,sage,rosemary and thyme'
Alongside did chime
Maybe he was reminded of an old love
as much his wretched soul did allow
He smiled at the end of the verse
A smile beautiful like a frown in reverse
They soothed the raging fire to flame
A warming hearth of the same
Pleased with the tunes
He returned to his ruins
Leaving behind a single tear
A tear that burst into a river heere
And out came flooding
with a start towards the town heading
I was hero who brought back life
To a town in strife.

But all i remembered was that tear and smile
A memory that lasted my whole life while...

I really enjoyed this. I admire you for keeping to that structure, which I know I would have found difficult, and for presenting the devil in a new, original way. Well done and keep up the good work! :)
